Cleaver Cuts up Abortionists

U.S. Bishops’ pro-life spokesman shows truth about abortion.

Never before in the history of Western civilization has the majority of a society reveled in, legalized, or even merely condoned a practice remotely as vile and inherently evil as abortion. There is no better modern assessment than that of Blessed Mother Theresa of Calcutta: “Abortion is the worst evil, and the greatest enemy of peace... Because if a mother can kill her own child, what will prevent us from killing ourselves or one another? Nothing.”

There has never been, nor will there ever be justification for the grievous sin of abortion. Abortion is not merely the murder of a human being, but the destruction of an innocent and unblemished child at the behest of its own mother. Not only does she violate the sanctity of her own womb, but she spits upon the dignity of the tender, blessed life that was entrusted to her care.

And why does modern, enlightened womankind commit this terrible act? For the mere pleasures of the flesh, the belief that she is more fit to grant life or death than the Omniscient Creator, and because Satan, having through deceit and the promise of worldly glory deceived many souls into being his abortionist pawns, has further convinced her that is her “choice” and her “right”. Worse still are the young men who callously manipulate these women to their own selfish designs, and the abortionists who revel in the gory remains of innocence and have made earthly fortunes at the expense of countless souls.

The 21st century world is stained by the blood of the pure and ingenuous. The United Nations, in a recent meeting, mocked the United States’ feeble efforts to prevent the world body from enshrining this “right” to an abortion in its statement on the equality of women. Only a scattering of countries remain sane amidst this madness, and the United States, though by far the largest, teeters on the edge of its own destruction. There is nothing so harmful to a representative government as rampant immorality, and if we lose this war against the culture of death, the United States will truly fall into darkness.

The abortionists like to claim that we wage a war on women’s rights. They are correct on one account—it is indeed a war, and the casualties weigh heavily on the soul of every righteous person. Every last one of us is called to do his or her part to bring a swift end to this holocaust that has killed more Jews than Hitler and more Russians than Stalin.

But where can we look for a virtuous example? Who do we have for role models? A president who calls himself pro-life yet sits idly while the mutilated bodies of millions of children are cast out with the daily trash. Deploy that coalition of the willing, Mr. President, to burn the death-mills in our own backyard and perhaps we will think more highly of you and your fellow Republicans.

On Wednesday, March 9th, approximately 50 Cornell students attended a lecture by Cathy Cleaver-Ruse, the chief spokesperson on pro-life issues for the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops in Goldwin Smith. Her lecture featured an enlightening look at the history of the abortion movement in America prior to the incalculable evil of Roe v. Wade. In essence, before the founding of NARAL (National Association for the Repeal of Abortion Laws) in 1969, there was no deluded coalition in favor of this horror. The whole idea of the “pro-choice” movement would be as farcical as, say, affirmative action, if not for the more than 1.3 million innocents who are slaughtered each year. This crushing figure is a mark of shame upon the souls of our entire generation.

For this reason, we must consider how Mrs. Ruse can easily come to terms with the staggering responsibility of her position as the voice of the US Catholic Church on this human rights issue of supreme and unparalleled importance. When she uses such rhetoric as, “rape and incest were always exceptions in laws against abortion,” we become somewhat concerned that the full truth is being withheld. It should be acknowledged that Mrs. Ruse assumed that she was speaking to a general audience, perhaps even one skewed with the morally vacuous political leanings of our beloved Cornell community. Moreover, a lawyer like Mrs. Ruse is by nature and training inclined to diplomatic gestures. Further, her uncompromising dedication to the cause of life in the United States places her almost beyond reproach.

However, all who claim to respect the laws of God must carefully choose their words and deeds lest they become an accomplice to the murder of millions. Any “pro-life” activist who does not completely and utterly condemn abortion, no exceptions, is not only useless but profoundly dangerous. The faith of the righteous must contain a purity of purpose or it will fall to the innumerable temptations that assail it.

If anyone allows compromise on an issue so morally fundamental, they cannot be trusted politically. Further, their spirit of concession infects the heart of the pro-life cause, sapping its resolve and insidiously twisting its ideals. Though the ugly mouthpieces of the abortionists will never sway Americans who support life, the insidious corruption of truth from within is all too common.

For examples of this inner corruption we need only to look to Mrs. Ruse’s parent organization. The administrative committee of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops published before the election last November a guide to “Faithful Citizenship”. An admirably clear statement on abortion is buried amidst a swamp of erroneous teaching and the promotion of partisan social experiments. There is absolutely no specific mention of Senator John Kerry’s heretical views on abortion and other moral issues and the grave danger they pose to the Church. Instead of confronting the increasing scandalization of the Church in the US once and for all, they talk endlessly about peace and justice as it would be engineered by their envisioned socialist state. There is no evil more insidious than corruption within, and it is our duty to speak out against weakness and corruption wherever it is found. Only by vigilance can righteousness be maintained. Though pro-life speakers love to tout opinion polls claiming a majority fall in their camp, true supporters of the unborn are in fact an incredibly meager minority.

To all true Americans, be they Christian, Mohammedan, Buddhist or Jew, abortion is without any doubt the most serious catastrophe and disgrace that has stained our republic since its founding. We are a nation that was created out of the furor over levies on stamps and a few other paltry taxes. We should be absolutely ashamed of our present inaction when faced not only with mere governmental injustice, but the merciless killing of 25% of our entire generation by approximately 2000 abortion clinics and abortifacient “contraceptive” drugs. As Americans it is our solemn and foremost duty to God and country, to release our deceived fellow citizens from the grip of Satan and stamp out once and for all the horrors of abortion.
